The Challenge
The core challenge was reconciling two very different demands in one experience: the editorial flexibility marketing needs to tell the Standard brand story, and the raw performance a 750,000-SKU catalog requires to stay fast under real-world traffic and complex vehicle-fitment queries.
What had to be done:
- Unite a marketing-grade brand experience with an industrial-strength product catalog on one platform
- Keep vehicle-fitment search fast and precise across roughly 750,000 SKUs
- Integrate the catalog into the surrounding Umbraco site so it never feels bolted on
- Give the content team building blocks to assemble pages without developer involvement
- Route visitors — technicians, counter pros, distributors — to the exact right part, on any device
The Approach
eCatalog architecture
Scandia built the eCatalog as a Blazor application, chosen for its ability to deliver a fluid, app-like browsing and filtering experience over an enormous dataset while keeping interactions responsive. Key features include:
- A Blazor front end tuned for the scale of the SKU dataset
- Direct integration into Umbraco views — the catalog renders inside the same page framework as the rest of the site
- Product detail pages with interactive highlights for exploring attributes, fitment, and specifications visually
- A guided user experience from "I have a vehicle and a problem" to "here is the exact part"
The result: browsing marketing content and drilling into a specific part are one continuous experience — same header, same navigation, same brand.
CMS & content architecture
Scandia's engineers approached the build the way we approach every large implementation: with a widget-based architecture on top of Umbraco that turns the site into a flexible set of building blocks the client controls. More than 50 widgets were configured in the back office, so editors compose landing pages, product storytelling, technical resources, and campaigns with agility — all managed in-house, while the underlying structure stays consistent and on-brand.
