The Challenge
As a firm managing a range of closed- and open-end investment funds, Tortoise had a broad audience—investors, advisors, analysts—and complex content requirements. Their legacy CMS wasn’t designed to handle:
- Fund performance updates and PDFs
- ESG content expansion
- Secure publishing and internal review processes
- Mobile accessibility and ADA compliance
- A clean separation between institutional and retail user flows
At the same time, their upcoming rebrand to TortoiseEcofin required a digital platform that could evolve without another full rebuild.
The Approach

Scandia redesigned the public site and rebuilt it using Umbraco CMS, with a focus on balancing control and compliance. Key considerations:

Rebrand-Ready Design System
We developed a flexible brand system that could evolve as Tortoise transitioned to its ESG-focused identity, TortoiseEcofin, supporting updated messaging, visual hierarchy, and navigation without restructuring the platform.
Scandia gave us a platform that simplifies the complex, with tools that make managing all our investor data simple and efficient. Their team really invested in learning our data, processes, and industry. We now have a modern, scalable site that reflects our brand, supports our compliance needs, and positions us for growth in the ESG space.

The Solution
The new platform supports Tortoise’s business growth, digital compliance, and marketing agility. It streamlines the management of 1000's of data points for each of its index funds and associated reports (including directly integrated with interactive charts and visual end-user tools).
Key features include:
