We recently received a refreshed badge from Umbraco marking our status as a Contributing Gold Partner — recognition we first earned back in 2020. It’s a small graphic, but it represents something we’re genuinely proud of: nearly two decades of building on Umbraco and giving back to the community that makes it possible.
So we thought this was a good moment to tell the story behind the badge.
Where it started
Long before Umbraco became the enterprise-ready CMS it is today, Scandia had already bet on it. We chose Umbraco because it gave our clients what few platforms could — the flexibility of open source with the structure and support serious organizations need. That was a bet on the platform, but it was also a bet on the community around it.
For nearly twenty years, that decision has paid off. We’ve migrated legacy systems, launched enterprise sites handling hundreds of thousands of products, and helped credit unions, manufacturers, and financial services firms modernize on a foundation built to last. Every one of those projects deepened our expertise — and our conviction that Umbraco was the right home for our clients.
Earning the Gold — and the “Contributing”
Umbraco’s Gold Partnership recognizes agencies with certified developers and a proven record of delivering complex, enterprise-scale projects. Scandia has held Gold status for years, and our developers remain fully Umbraco certified.
But “Contributing” is a different kind of recognition. Umbraco reserves it for Gold and Platinum partners who don’t just use the platform — they help build it. Contributing status is earned through the work that keeps an open-source project healthy: code contributions, packages and extensions, documentation, tutorials, and active participation in the community.
We first earned that designation in 2020, and it reflects the way Scandia has always worked. We don’t treat Umbraco as a product we resell. We treat it as a community we belong to. Over the years that’s meant contributing back to the ecosystem, participating in community initiatives, and staying close to the people building the platform — including joining the Umbraco Commerce Community Team to help shape where the commerce side of Umbraco goes next.

Why it matters for our clients
A badge on a website is easy to overlook. What it actually signals is harder to fake.
When you work with a Contributing Gold Partner, you’re working with a team that sits inside the Umbraco ecosystem, not adjacent to it. That means direct pathways into Umbraco HQ when a project needs them, early familiarity with new releases, and developers who understand the platform at the level of the people who write it. It also means a partner whose incentives are aligned with your outcome — we recommend the hosting and architecture that fit your project, whether that’s Umbraco Cloud, Azure, AWS, or a hybrid setup, because Gold gives us that freedom.
The result is what it’s always been: flexible, secure, scalable Umbraco projects built to deliver measurable results.
Still contributing, still building
The 2020 date on the badge isn’t something we hide — it’s a marker of how long we’ve been in this. The recognition still stands because the commitment behind it never stopped. We’re still certified, still contributing, and still building the kind of enterprise Umbraco work that earned the designation in the first place.
If you’re weighing a new build, a migration, or a rescue of a project that’s stalled, we’d love to talk about what a true Umbraco partner can do for you.
